# Global Languages

> Make your agent multilingual, with per-language prompts and pipelines.

An agent can speak more than one language. Each language has its own system prompt, welcome message, final response, and [pipeline](/agent-builder/pipeline/overview). One language is the **Primary**.

## Add or remove languages

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Manage Languages">
    On the **Agent** or **Pipeline** tab, open the language selector (for example **English (Primary)**) and select **Manage Languages**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Select languages">
    Search or filter by **Country**, and select the languages you need. Use **Make Primary** to change the primary language.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Apply">
    Select **Apply**. For each new language, the builder:

    * Sets up a default pipeline, if default models exist for that language.
    * Translates the system prompt, welcome message, and end-call final response from your existing content.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Note>
  You can't remove the primary language. Make another language primary first.
</Note>

## Edit per language

Use the language selector at the top of the **Agent** or **Pipeline** tab to choose which language you're editing. Settings shared by all languages, such as [VAD and interruptions](/agent-builder/pipeline/turn-detection-and-interruptions), aren't affected by the selector.

If a language has no default models, pick its models manually on the **Pipeline** tab. Until you do, the draft shows an error and can't be committed.
